Cape Symphony Masterpiece 4 Mozart, At Last!

Barnstable Performing Arts Center, 744 West Main Street

Starting at 7:30 AM

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote five violin concertos. This is his last. He wrote forty-one symphonies. This is his last. He wrote his last opera in the last year of his life. The point?
Sometimes the best really are the last. The most loved. The most requested. And, they’re here. In one fest of finales. Plus some firsts. This is the first time we’ll perform the “Jupiter” symphony, Mozart’s fearless flight to the very edge of what’s musically possible. He uses five different melodies simultaneously in the blazing finale which certainly calls for some fearlessness of our own.

Nantucket Daffodil Weekend 2016

Nantucket

From the first Daffodil Show on Nantucket in 1974, the festival has grown to include many more activities, and surely more daffodils. The tradition was first sponsored by the Nantucket Garden club and was highlighted by the planting of daffodils along Milestone Road. The group had a goal of someday reaching one million daffodils. With the help of island residents and professional landscapers, that goal has been far surpassed. It is estimated from early April to mid-May, three million daffodils bloom and help to decorate present-day Nantucket.

The Daffodil Festival’s grand event held on Saturday - is the Annual Antique Car Parade, which features over 100 daffodil-bedecked vintage cars (pre-registration necessary for participation). After winding through town and across the island to the charming village of Siasconset, participants join residents and visitors for the Annual Daffodil Tailgate Picnic. Held on the lush lawns leading into the village, the picnic boasts fare ranging from elaborate gourmet cuisine served on fine china to box lunches and burgers. Other highlights include the Nantucket Garden Club’s Annual Daffodil Show, Children’s Daffodil Parade, Daffy Hat Pageant and Daffodil Dog Parade.

Cut! Costume and the Cinema

Heritage Museums & Gardens, 67 Grove Street, Sandwich

Visitors will discover the glamour, luxury and artistry of cinematic couture. Five centuries of fashion and style as interpreted by award-winning costume designers and worn by our favorite stars will be on display along with props, movie clips and photos and movie memorabilia.

Costumes play a critical role in the success of any period film. They set the scene and establish authenticity and ambience. They also reveal clues about a character’s status, age, class and wealth as well as his or her role in the story. Such is the case with the 43 costumes featured in the exhibition, CUT! Costume and the Cinema.
